Privacy Policy
Desk Beast is made by Groot Studios LLC (“we”, “us”). The short version: there are no accounts and no ads, we don’t track you across apps or sell your data, and most of what you put into Desk Beast never leaves your devices. This policy explains the details.
What stays on your device
These are stored only on your iPhone (and your paired Apple Watch, if you use it) and are never sent to us:
- Your beast and progress: your beast’s name, the reasons you gave for wanting to move more, your onboarding answers, workouts, XP, levels, streaks, quests, badges and settings.
- Calendar (Smart Reminders, optional): with your permission, Desk Beast reads only the start and end times and free/busy status of your calendar events to find a gap between meetings. It never reads event titles, notes, locations or attendees.
- Motion & Fitness (Stillness Alerts, optional): with your permission, Desk Beast reads your iPhone’s motion activity history to see when you last walked, ran or cycled, so it can time a nudge after you’ve been still too long.
- Notifications: reminders are scheduled locally on your iPhone. We don’t run a push notification server.
- Apple Watch: your iPhone and Apple Watch sync progress directly with each other using Apple’s WatchConnectivity, not through our servers.
Desk Beast does not use HealthKit and does not access your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone. Deleting the app deletes this data.
Anonymous product analytics
To understand how people use the app and improve it, Desk Beast sends usage events to PostHog, our analytics provider, which stores them in the United States. These events include:
- app opens and the screens you view;
- which onboarding steps you reach, and whether you complete onboarding;
- paywall views and dismissals, and the outcome of trials, purchases and restores (product, plan length, price and currency);
- workout completions: how many exercises you completed or skipped, how long the workout took, your total workout count, and whether you leveled up or evolved;
- your beast’s evolution stage and whether you are a subscriber;
- whether you allowed or denied reminder permissions.
Events are tied to a random identifier generated by the app (the same random ID our purchase provider uses), not to your name, email or Apple ID. PostHog’s SDK also records basic technical details such as app version, iOS version, device model and language. As with any internet service, PostHog receives your IP address when the app connects and may use it to estimate an approximate location (such as country). We don’t send your beast’s name, your written answers, calendar data or motion data, and session recording is turned off.
Purchases and subscriptions
Desk Beast Pro subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment card or billing details. We use RevenueCat to check whether your subscription is active. RevenueCat receives your App Store transaction information (such as product, purchase date, trial status and expiry), the app’s random identifier, and basic device and app details. Apple’s handling of your data is covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
No tracking, no ads, no selling
Desk Beast has no advertising, does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA), does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites, and we do not sell or share your personal information for advertising. We share data only with the service providers named in this policy, who process it on our behalf, or when required by law.
This website
deskbeast.app has no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies and no sign-up forms. It is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes basic request information (such as IP address and browser type) to deliver and protect the site.
Retention and your choices
- Data on your device stays until you delete it or delete the app.
- We keep analytics and subscription records only as long as they’re useful for running and improving Desk Beast, or as long as needed for legal, tax and accounting purposes.
- You can turn off calendar and Motion & Fitness access at any time in the iOS Settings app. Only the features that need that access stop working.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple ID settings, or from Profile → Manage subscription in the app.
- To ask what data we hold about you, or to have it deleted, email [email protected]. Because there are no accounts, we may ask for details that help us find your records, such as the date and plan of a purchase.
Depending on where you live (for example in the EU, UK or California), you may have legal rights to access, correct, delete or port your personal data, and to object to or restrict its processing. We honor these requests and won’t treat you differently for making them. Where the GDPR applies, we rely on our legitimate interest in running and improving the app for analytics, and on performing our contract with you for subscriptions. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Desk Beast is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy, we’ll update the effective date above, and for significant changes we’ll let you know in the app. Questions or requests: [email protected].
